Question no one ever asks " Do you need Black & White Cardigans to have Blue Merles ? " Answer is " Yes ! " Blue Merles are a ressessive trait & need a Black & White to stabilize the genetics & color .  Breeding a Blue Merle to a Blue Merle will tie into other ressessive & undesirable traits . Breeding to any other color will only muddy / cloud up the colors . A litter bred for Blue Merles , may produce one or two ( maybe none ! ) Blue Merles , the rest will be Black & White pups . Unless the beautiful Black & White pups sell , a kennel can not justifying breeding .
