Two For The Money !

 So many will buy a pup from us & then a year later a second . We must be doing something right ! Case in point ; this women fell in love twice & claims " Best dogs ever ! " . She's wrong . . . we all have the best Cardigans ever !

Held up offering this girl until a final selection was made between sisters . The snowstorm also slowed up visits . Several people have expressed an interest , but no promises so far . Wonder how many will be interested in this girl ?

 Wait that's the old Post Office motto ! This couple made it up from Brooklyn after the snowstorm , that dropped record amounts along the coast . This little girl is going back to the city where I was born , Brooklyn !

Wizard Of Oz !

In the 1939 Wizard of Oz, a poppy field kept Dorthy & Toto away . Then a light snow hit & Dorthy was able to continue her trip to the City of Oz . Kinda like that here ! We got a coating of snow & travel is possible , but east of us Mother Nature really hit ! Any scheduled visits had to be postponed .

Marriage Brokers & Puppy Brokers ?

In many countries they still have marriage brokers ( matchmakers ) that make a living pairing up people that never seen each other . In this country we have thriving puppy brokers that match up puppies they never see , with people they never see , through breeders they never see !  I smell puppy mills ! 

Now who do you complain to if you get a sick puppy of uncertain breeding ? Better yet if you send your money to a post office box & get no reply ? Who do I complain to when I find a puppy broker advertising on my blog ? Happened again ! Big Ears Kennel & Rabbitry has no connections with other kennels . If you see someone advertising on my blog , please let me know .

Bigfoot & $5000 Cardigan Pups ?

You can find them both online ! However be wary of a breeder offering a Cardigan pup for $5000 ! In the real world a reliable breeder would not offer a $5000 pup to you or me . We would never get past security to see such a well bred pup . The pup would be in great demand from top breeders in the world .

AKC states 80% of online sites offering puppies are either scams or puppy mills . Usually the backyard breeders that may promise a $5000 pup , will also ship . This way you just send money , never see the kennel or meet the parents . These con artists don't sell healthy Cardigans , they sell dreams . If you think you're getting a $5000 puppy , sight unseen from strangers , you are dreaming . 

Instead check things out . Find out are they in good standing with AKC . Do they belong to breed clubs such as CWCCA . Try to buy local or within a drive ( You may have to return ! ) . Check out pedigree , health record , return policy , & meet breeder ! Be wary about sending money , non refundable deposits , & going on a waiting list ! Keep in mind , it's not always what you see , it can be what you don't see !

 With the dogs , rabbits , chickens , & garden . . . do you make or spend money ? Don’t know . Have same money in bank since retired . Not totally dependent on store for food . Know what I eat . Have symbiotic system where each animal / plant supplies to the homestead . Preserve a ancient breed of dog . Never-ending chores do keep me fit & active . Get to work out stress ( swearing ) ! Support 5 doctors & a dentist ! So I believe there’s more than money spent/ earned on Big Ears Kennel & Rabbitry .

AKC Registered Seven's & Butch Litter !

While reviewing puppy inquiries , AKC registered litter . At 5 weeks old starting to schedule visits from approved homes . Seven is a Black & White mom with tan points . Butch , a Blue Merle , is dad !

 

Breeder Gets First Choice !

 Old policy , " Breeder gets first choice " . While reviewing inquiries for approved homes for Seven's litter . I selected an approved home for " Rocky ' , the large Blue Merle with bold white markings & maybe blue eyes . No promises were made . It was the only logical choice . Almost every inquiry stated " Color really doesn't matter . . . as long as I get the big Blue Merle ! " Too many people would have been upset , if I chose someone else . So I picked a home with 20 years experience in Cardigans . . . me ! So many of my Blue Merle pups went to strangers & never kept one with blue eyes . This way , in a couple of years Rocky will produce a line of puppies for others . Who knows , some may be Blue Merles with blue eyes . Ask yourself , could you give this one away ? 

Socializing ?

 A common question I'm asked , besides vaccinating for over 200 diseases ( many do not affect Cardigans , some can't be done till 2 years old , & would cost a fortune ! ) is " Do we socialize our puppies ? " . Before you ask , did you consider a puppy's just starting their vaccination program should have limited public exposure ? Heck , during this pandemic , I have limited public exposure !

Some breeds have limited human social abilities / skills & must be trained at an early age to accept public surroundings , pets , children , & other people . There was a fighting pit dog called Blue Paul . The breed is now extinct , because is was not handleable by even its owner ! Not Cardigans . Cardigans are an extremely adaptable breed from puppyhood to advance age , Advanced efforts to socialize Cardigans is like another coat of paint on a brand new car , or teaching Jesse Owens to run !

Having said this , the Cardigan breed standard states " Aloof with strangers " . Cardigans are herding dogs raised originally by farmers . Just like farmers , are aloof with strangers . Once you win over a farmer or Cardigan , you have a friend for life !
